Hiking and mobility at hitchcock nature center
come Enjoy Nature with me
I host a round-trip hike with a mobility session at Hitchcock Nature Center in Crescent, Iowa. The nature center is about a 35 minute drive outside of Omaha. We will hike to a spot in front of the Lotus Pond, which takes roughly 35-45 minutes, stop for our mobility session, which will be roughly 20-30 minutes, and then hike back to the parking lot by the Lodge, which is about another 30 minutes. With stops for breaks, and trail pictures, the entire endeavor will be roughly 2 hours so ensure you are in physical shape to be able to complete 2 hours of consistent physical activity. If you are a new client, you MUST complete a health questionnaire and disclosure before beginning the hike. Please see link below to complete the forms:
Need to know information
We will meet in the furthest parking lot that is next to the Lodge as that is where our hiking trail begins. If the parking lot is full, there is over-flow parking a short distance before the Lodge parking lot. We will start the hike at 9:30am, set to return around 11:30am. I recommend eating a light breakfast with protein beforehand and bringing a snack (trail mix, protein bar for example) to eat while on the trail. Please follow Leave No Trace guidelines and whatever you pack in, (food or gum wrappers, bottled water, etc.) you pack back out with you. There are no bathrooms on the trails so please use the Lodge bathroom before we head out on the trail, or there are restrooms when you first enter the gates.
Please note that there is a $5 per vehicle park admission fee, payable with exact change or check at the park gate. This fee is NOT included as part of the hiking/mobility session fee. These are separate fees. The cost for the hiking/mobility session is based on the amount of people in your group. For 1-3 people, the cost per person is $30. For 4-6 people, the cost is $25 per person. For 7-10 people, the cost is $20 per person. So, the more people you bring to hike with, the more you save! I will only be hosting groups of 10 people max at a time, so please message me the number of people in your group so I can plan accordingly. If I have more than 10 people sign up for a hike, I will add on a second hike for to start at 12:30 and end at 2:30.
Payment for the hike/mobility session can be made at the time of the session in either cash or to my venmo @Leah-raven-7.
I will be holding the mobility sessions every first and third Saturday of the month and until the weather gets too cold and/or trail conditions become too muddy or snowy/icy. These sessions are weather and trail conditions permitting. If I have to cancel due to weather or trail conditions, I will update my Raven Training Facebook Group page (see link below in footer) an hour before start time. If you are unsure if the session is still happening or not, please message me on Facebook and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

What to bring
The trail(s) we will take do include hills, so I recommend hiking sticks if you feel more comfortable with them up and down hills. I also recommend bringing at least 2 liters of water. I prefer a Camelbak so I don’t have to carry anything in my hands while hiking. Please also bring your own yoga mat for the mobility session and I would recommend using a yoga mat strap so you can string it across your back, so you are hands-free. Other recommendations since we will be out in the elements are wearing layers of clothing that can be easily put on or taken off depending on the weather, bug spray, sunscreen, sunglasses/hats and hiking shoes. If you don’t like walking through tall grasses, please wear pants as there are a lot of trails that will have tall grasses on the side and/or in the middle of the path.
